Gamma Sterilization

What to verify when evaluating gamma-irradiated cleanroom mop presentations and their packaging.

By Jing Jiang · Published · Updated

Direct answer

Gamma irradiation should be treated as a configuration-specific sterilization record, not as a universal cleanroom-mop claim. For the confirmed Polyester Knit Mop records, the sterile 40 g, 55 g and 65 g SKUs are listed with double-layer vacuum-sealed packaging and gamma irradiation. Approval still requires the buyer to verify the exact SKU, release documentation, packaging integrity and site transfer procedure.

Confirm the applicable product configuration, packaging presentation and release record before treating a sterilization statement as relevant to a site review.

What gamma irradiation does—and does not—establish

Gamma irradiation is a processing method used for a defined product configuration. It does not, by itself, establish a cleanroom classification, cleaning efficacy, frame compatibility, shelf life or compliance with a site SOP. ISO 14644-1 addresses airborne particle classification; it is not a product sterilization standard. EU GMP Annex 1 and IEST-RP-CC018 provide contamination-control and housekeeping context, but the facility must still qualify its own cleaning workflow.

The evidence library records gamma irradiation only in the sterile Polyester Knit Mop rows. The corresponding non-sterile rows remain non-sterile even when their nominal size, weight or construction is similar. Never inherit a sterilization statement from a family name, photograph or competitor page.

  • Sterilization method and applicable release record
  • Packaging barrier, storage and transfer procedure
  • Site-defined acceptance criteria and qualification evidence

Confirmed Polyester Knit Mop records

The current MIDPOSI evidence library confirms six Polyester Knit Mop SKUs: MID-MOP-PK-40G-N, MID-MOP-PK-40G-S, MID-MOP-PK-55G-N, MID-MOP-PK-55G-S, MID-MOP-PK-65G-N and MID-MOP-PK-65G-S. Each record is scoped to its own part number. Confirmed common dimensions are 40 cm × 12 cm; confirmed nominal weights are 40 g (±10%), 55 g (±10%) or 65 g (±10%). Sterile rows are separately identified from non-sterile rows.

Technical review

Do not publish an unsupported dose or SAL

The public evidence set does not confirm a gamma dose, SAL, expiry period, bioburden limit or dose-audit result for these mop records. Those values belong in the ‘needs further confirmation’ section until a current, SKU-scoped document is approved for publication. A sterilization method statement is not a substitute for a batch-specific certificate or the buyer’s own release requirements.

For a qualification review, request the exact sterile SKU, packaging specification, applicable sterilization or release document, lot traceability and any storage or expiry conditions. The assessment should also cover how outer packaging is handled before the mop enters the controlled area.

  • Confirmed: sterile status, nominal size, nominal weight and listed construction
  • Confirmed: sterile-row packaging statement ‘Double-layer vacuum sealed; gamma irradiated; carton quantity: 100’
  • Needs further confirmation: dose, SAL, expiry, storage limits, frame fit and particle/lint performance

Confirmed data

SKU identity, sterile status, nominal size, nominal weight and construction are confirmed for the six listed records. Sterile rows also carry the recorded double-layer vacuum-sealed and gamma-irradiated packaging statement.

Needs further confirmation

  • • Frame interface / compatibility
  • • Application and Grade A/B/C/D suitability
  • • Absorbency and surface coverage
  • • Particle and lint performance
  • • MOQ, lead time and customization
