Sterile vs Non-Sterile Mops
A practical framework for separating sterile presentation requirements from non-sterile cleaning workflows.
By Jing Jiang · Published · Updated
Direct answer
Choose sterile versus non-sterile mops by the point-of-use requirement and the facility’s transfer and contamination-control procedure—not by assuming that every configuration in a product family has the same status. In the confirmed Polyester Knit Mop records, sterile and non-sterile part numbers are separate SKUs, and only the sterile rows carry the gamma-irradiated, double-layer vacuum-sealed packaging statement.

Start with the exact SKU
A sterile presentation changes the incoming package, storage, transfer and opening workflow. A non-sterile presentation may be appropriate where the site procedure accepts it, but that decision belongs to the facility’s risk assessment and SOP. The textile family alone does not decide the status.
The current MIDPOSI evidence library confirms six Polyester Knit Mop SKUs: MID-MOP-PK-40G-N, MID-MOP-PK-40G-S, MID-MOP-PK-55G-N, MID-MOP-PK-55G-S, MID-MOP-PK-65G-N and MID-MOP-PK-65G-S. The 40 g, 55 g and 65 g weights each have sterile and non-sterile rows. This makes the part number the minimum unit of review: do not transfer packaging or sterilization wording from the sterile row to the non-sterile row.

Separate sterile transfer from cleaning performance
Sterile status describes the supplied presentation and its release basis; it does not automatically prove absorbency, coverage, particle performance or compatibility with a particular frame. Those are separate evaluation questions. IEST-RP-CC018 places housekeeping within the wider contamination-control programme, while EU GMP Annex 1 requires a documented contamination-control approach for sterile medicinal-product manufacture.
For a sterile configuration, define inspection of the outer package, disinfection or transfer steps, opening point, storage and waste handling. For a non-sterile configuration, define the controlled-area entry and preparation steps. Both workflows need a representative sample evaluation against the site procedure.

Evidence boundary for the current records
Confirmed fields include the six Polyester Knit Mop part numbers, sterile status, 40 cm × 12 cm nominal size, 40/55/65 g nominal weight and the recorded construction. Sterile rows also list double-layer vacuum-sealed packaging and gamma irradiation. The current evidence library does not publish absorbency, coverage, particle/lint performance, frame interface, MOQ, lead time or shelf-life values for these records.
Use the product page and sample request to identify the selected configuration, then request the documents needed by QA and procurement. A family-level page or a competitor comparison is not a substitute for the selected SKU’s evidence.
- Confirmed data: SKU identity, sterile status, nominal size, nominal weight and construction
- Confirmed for sterile rows: double-layer vacuum-sealed packaging and gamma irradiation
- Needs further confirmation: frame fit, application/grade suitability, performance, storage, expiry and lifecycle
